New York (up to 1664 – New Amsterdam) – a city in the US, one of the largest cities in the world. The population of 8,500,500 people (2009). Located on the Atlantic coast in the south-eastern part of New York State. New York consists of 5 administrative districts: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island.
New York was founded in the early XVII century Dutch colonists, the original name – New Amsterdam.
The main attractions are located in Manhattan. Among them: the historical skyscrapers (Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building), the building of the railway station, Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Opera, the Museum of Modern Art Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (painting), the American Museum of Natural History ( skeletons of dinosaurs and Planetarium), the headquarters of the United Nations, Haarlem (former Negro ghettos).
